5 Tips For Embracing An Abundance Mindset

Nowadays, we often hear people talk about a scarcity mindset versus an abundance mindset. A scarcity mindset is when a person believes that opportunities, resources, and successes are limited or uncommon and must therefore be guarded. This type of perspective tends to focus on the “lack” of something rather than the endless possibilities that the world has to offer. Whereas with an abundance mindset, the person believes that there are enough resources and successes for everyone to share. Sometimes when negativity begins to creep in, it’s easy to revert to a scarcity mindset – almost like your psychological self is clinging to survival. However, when you’re open to the endless possibilities that the world has to offer, abundance can come to you. So, today, let’s look at 5 tips for embracing an abundance mindset and how it can help you truly become your best self and live your best life.

1. practice mindfulness and gratitude

One of the first ways to embrace an abundance mindset is by practicing mindfulness and gratitude in your daily routine. Focusing on what you do have is a mindful way to help you integrate gratitude into your perspective and remind yourself of how far you’ve come and even where you want to go. Personally, I enjoy writing in my journal and using my vision board. Every morning I write at the top of my journal entry 5 things that I’m grateful for, and, of course, they range, but generally, they’re things like my career, family, dogs, happiness, home, health, etc. Then, my vision board is reserved for my future prospects and endeavors, and it serves as an excellent reminder of why I’m on the path that I’m on if I’m ever unsure or doubting myself. Another way to practice mindset training that’s similar to having a vision board is visualization itself. Visualization is all about allowing your thoughts, ideas, and goals to emerge as mental images in the mind’s eye in order to draw them closer to you in reality. This is essentially the law of attraction, which says that positive thoughts or ideas that you hold in your mind can bring positive results to your real life. Taking a few minutes to meditate on your future goals or plans mindfully can help you embrace an abundance mindset, drive you towards your destiny, and ultimately fire your old self to make way for your new, best self.

2. shift your self-talk

Beyond practicing gratitude and mindfulness, another important thing to do when starting to embrace an abundance mindset is shifting your self-talk. Sometimes we don’t realize just how much power our negative thoughts or self-talk have on us. Rather than give in to these harmful thoughts, we need to train our minds to recognize the possibilities, thereby re-phrasing our own narratives. In other words, we need to use our own thoughts to change our current beliefs and shift the negative self-talk to be positive and productive. Once you’ve recognized the power of your thoughts and can identify when you’re beginning to be negative or have a limiting belief, then you can begin to make the shift towards positivity and abundance. Personally, I struggle heavily with negative self-talk; however, even just being able to identify when it’s creeping in is a huge step towards changing it. So, don’t get discouraged just because you’re not where you want to be. Remind yourself that you’re not where you want to be, YET. Once you’re able to shift your self-talk, you’ll be properly positioned to embrace an abundance mindset so that you may truly love the life you live.

3. surround yourself with like-minded people

A helpful way to ensure that the positive perspective you’ve cultivated stays in place is by surrounding yourself with like-minded people. Like-minded people help you stay aligned with your true goals and motivated toward your passions and dreams. Unfortunately, sometimes this means spending less time with those who don’t prioritize and embrace an abundance lifestyle or align with the mindset you’re trying to strive towards. For example, I had a friend in University who was very negative, and I began to notice that bad things just got worse when they were around every time. So, I just quietly started hanging out with them less and less until we both graduated and were basically complete strangers by that point. Looking back, I wish I could’ve had a conversation with them about abundance and the power of a positive perspective, but I also have to remind myself that I’m not in charge of someone else’s happiness or abundance mindset. This exemplifies why it’s important to keep good company – the ones that make you feel nice and positive, not the energy vampires or the grumps. By surrounding yourself with like-minded people, you will find it easier to embrace an abundance mindset and truly live your best life as the best version of yourself.

4. focus on your unique strengths

Sometimes people don’t want to rely on others, and, in that case, a tip for embracing an abundance mindset is to focus on your unique strengths. What makes you special, different, or stand out from others – and DON’T try and say nothing. Everyone has a unique strength, even if you haven’t discovered it yet or don’t understand it to the fullest potential. But that’s what is important, that you recognize the potential that this unique strength has for you, and once you do, you begin to use it to your advantage. In my case, I figured out in University that my passion was reading, writing, editing, and researching, but I didn’t understand how to translate that into a career path that I loved. It didn’t help that every person I met questioned what I would truly be able to do with a Bachelor’s Degree in English. After I graduated, I held a variety of different jobs, but nothing ever felt satisfying or gratifying in the larger sense. Eventually, although it wasn’t easy, my path brought me to freelancing which was the ultimate intersection of all of those passions I had found at University. However, everything clicked into place when I came across it, and it happened by me focusing on my unique strengths, figuring out how to employ them to my advantage, and embracing an abundance mindset so that I could fire my old self and begin to mold myself into my new best self.

5. do more of what you love

Moving beyond strategically using your strengths to benefit your career or life, it’s important when trying to embrace an abundance mindset that you simply do more of what you love. So, if there’s a hobby that you haven’t done recently or if there’s a certain activity that makes you feel invigorated, you need to make time for it in your daily, weekly, or monthly schedule. Be sure to prioritize and pursue these passions because they help you create meaningful and memorable life experiences that you get to carry forever. These experiences help you ‘fill your cup’ because we all know that you can’t pour from an empty cup. So, some of the things that I like to do quite often are walking my dogs, going to a coffee shop with my best friend, and seeing live music. Then, a few things I love that I don’t get to do as often are going hiking with my family, spending time with my Nana, and traveling the world. Remember, it’s okay if and when your hobbies evolve; as a teenager, I had completely different hobbies and interests than I do now. Either way, the more you engage in these feel-good activities, the more you’ll realize how important it is to do more of what you love in order to embrace an abundance mindset so you can live your best life and a life you LOVE!!

Sometimes if you’ve held onto a scarcity mindset for a long time, the idea of shifting your perspective to an abundance mindset can be nerve-wracking. However, once you realize it starts with your own thoughts and how you speak to yourself, it’s a game-changer. By practicing mindfulness and gratitude and working on shifting your self-talk, you can begin to welcome abundance into your life. This abundance is further solidified when you surround yourself with like-minded people because they help you stay on track and stay motivated toward your dreams and goals. Something to keep in mind is that you shouldn’t compare yourself to others but rather focus on the unique strengths that make you special. Finally, you need to do more of what you love! Bring back the fun memories or fulfilling hobbies that ‘fill your cup’ so that you can more easily invite abundance in to work its magic. Ultimately, by integrating these 5 tips for embracing an abundance mindset, you can truly begin to work towards firing your old self to make way for your new, best self while remembering that Life’s Short, Love the Life You Live!
